Speeding: Is it worth it?

The words “speeding ticket frenzy” should have been enough to tip me off, but it was a quick check on Snopes to find that, indeed, PA cops are not on a rampage to catch any and all speeders.

But I’ve been thinking lately: is speeding even worth it? Yeah, sure, I can get away with going 70 or more on 76, but what does that gain me? My commute is easily the most stressful part of my day, and I wondered how much time that was saving me. Here’s some quick and dirty math:

• 23 miles at 70 MPH: 19 minutes
• 23 miles at 55 MPH: 25 minutes

This, of course, is glossing over the fact that at least half of my commute isn’t even on the highway, so my time saved is less.

6 minutes or less. Conclusion? Not worth it.
